The guardian revealed that the Shadow Lord was the result of a dark alchemy that had been performed by a forgotten sect, the Black Lotus Cult, whose members sought to control the parallel realm for their own gain. To defeat the Shadow Lord, Minghao would have to confront the cult's remnants and unravel the secrets of the dark alchemy.

The climax of Minghao's journey came when he and Jing confronted the cult's last surviving member, a twisted Fu named Hua, who was now the Shadow Lord's puppet.
